Through the intercession of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God free you from illness of the throat and from any other sort of ill. In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
When I was a junior in high school, I took St. Blaise as my Confirmation saint. I wish I could give a really powerful story and witness about how I decided to choose St. Blaise, but in all honesty, I just thought the name sounded cool. Fortunately, since that point I have grown in my faith tremendously, quite possibly due to his intercession. I was one of the those kids, who did not take CYO classes all too seriously, but the grace of Confirmation worked mysteriously in my life. So, if you are the dedicated catechist with the apathetic teen in your class, take heart.
Today, the monks join the Universal Church in celebrating the feast day of St. Blaise. We had the opportunity to have our throats blessed after Day Prayer. Then, I decided to take the candles, stole, and prayer card to the Development Office to bless the throats of the ladies with whom I work.
