February Activities

It has been an activity filled past couple of weeks. In addition to the work and ministry, we continue to get more snow. It has been a particularly snowy winter this year both in quantity of snow and frequency. Just last night we got another 2 inches of snow as evidence by my picture below. […]

One Bread, One Cup

Each summer, St. Meinrad hosts several “One Bread, One Cup” gatherings. At these five-day liturgical leadership conferences, youth and adults discover the Catholic Church’s treasures of Word, Sacrament and Mission and enjoy opportunities for fellowship and fun (team building, outdoor recreation, variety show and dance). Participants come to appreciate the Benedictine balance of prayer, work […]

Des Moines

For the past two weeks, I have been filling in for the pastor, Fr. Aquinas, at the Basilica of St. John in Des Moines, Iowa. Fr. Aquinas has been taking these days away for vacation. I was able to help out at this beautiful parish last summer as well. It is one of the highlights […]

Adventures in Ministry

It is a great joy and blessing to be a monk and a priest.  I enjoy the benefits of common prayer, community life, and I am able to take pastoral assignments, particularly on the weekend.  Several weeks ago, I saw on the calendar that I would be assigned for three weekend Masses at St. Gregory Barbarigo parish in […]

Game Day

I enjoyed traveling to Macon, Missouri to cover weekend Masses for Fr. Dave Viet.  The parish community was very hospitable and I had one of the best meals in a long time at a parishioner’s home on Saturday evening.  Two seminarians from the Diocese of Jefferson City were also in town to begin their week […]

Weekly Assignments

It lists anything from who is celebrating Mass during the week, to the bell ringer, to table waiters. There are “house” (monastery) assignments, and these assignments begin Saturday afternoon and continue throughout the week. Also, for the […]

Weekend Activities

It was a busy, but enjoyable weekend. Saturday was a beautiful day.  It was sunny and got up to 70 degrees.  I had Mass for the sisters at Our Lady of Rickenbach (Clyde), as the last Mass of the week for my pastoral assignment.  In the afternoon I visited with a group from St. John’s […]

Weekend Mission

A great part of being a monk and a priest is being sent out “on mission” to minister to a variety of parishes on the weekend.  Sunday morning I departed the Abbey at 6:30am to drive to Hamilton (70 miles), then on to Gallatin (15 more miles) (see map below). The parishioners at Sacred Heart […]
