Saturday we celebrated graduation and today we said our farewell to those graduating seniors and students receiving the pre-theology certificate. It is always a bitter-sweet time at Conception Seminary. These men have spent much time among us praying, studying, and maturing. Now they prepare for their next step in life. Seminary May Day

Friday, May 10th was Conception Seminary’s annual “May Day” events. It is like one big day-long sports game. This year’s competition of the blue team vs. the white team involved soccer, ultimate frisbee, basketball, volleyball, softball, flag football, tug of war, and more. Among the numerous individual events, there was a dunk competition (on a […]

Abbey Trails 2019

We had our annual 5K Run/2-mile walk on Saturday morning, May 4th. This year we had beautiful weather and a wonderful turnout. There were 81 runners in the 5K race and 120 walkers. Participants enjoyed brunch and the health fair after the race in St. Michael’s Gymnasium. Seminarian John Paul Hartnedy (Diocese of Little Rock) […]

Giving Tuesday

Conception Abbey and Seminary College has participated in the Giving Tuesday event for several years. Monks, seminarians, employees, friends and neighbors gather in St. Raphael Hall (the Welcome Center) to donate and wrap gifts, make blankets and stuffed animals, decorate ornaments, and write Christmas cards which will be sent to people in need this Christmas. Rock climbing

On Saturday I went to an indoor rock climbing gym with three seminarians, all seniors at Conception Seminary College. I had been chaplain to these three seminarians during their freshman year in the seminary. It was a good time of team building and testing of physical and mental strength. Also, joining us was Dr. Zita […]

The weekend features a soccer tournament and a volleyball round robin tournament. The soccer fields were pretty soggy from several days of rain that fell before the weekend. The main soccer field was torn up […]

Alumni Reunion

This past Friday was our annual Alumni Reunion. There was a good showing from the Class of 1967, celebrating their 50th anniversary. The nice weather allowed the social hour to take place in the plaza area in front of St. Michael’s Hall. This year’s speaker was Fr. Paul Turner. He was introduced by the new […]

Labor Day Picnic

One of the enjoyable annual events where the monastic and seminary communities interact is at the Labor Day Picnic. The seminarians just concluded a Day of Recollection (day of silence and prayer) and they were ready to visit and enjoy some brats and burgers. Monks and seminarians gathered near the picnic tables behind St. Benedict […]
